Why we exist
Japan’s supply side is deep and fragmented: thousands of makers and ton’ya (wholesalers) who have spent decades refining products for the domestic market, selling through long-standing domestic relationships. Exporting was never their channel — so for an overseas buyer, the routes to reach them were built for Japan, not for you.
The result is a false choice we wrote about in our sourcing guide: broad selection with heavy operational load, or light operation with a narrow, pre-filtered catalog. orosy was built to remove that trade-off — broad access to Japanese supply, with the cross-border operation handled for you.
Our history
orosy has spent its whole life on one problem — helping great Japanese products reach more shelves — and each chapter built the relationships that Japan Direct Wholesale now opens to overseas buyers.
2018
Founded in Japan as SpaceEngine, Inc.
Operated up to eight physical stores where makers could simply send products and start selling.

2019
Released the "SpaceEngine" platform
A retail marketplace app connecting makers to third-party stores. Won the Tokyu Award at TechCrunch Tokyo 2019 and the Special Award (runner-up) at B Dash Camp 2019 Fall.

2020
Became orosy — the wholesale marketplace
Renamed the company orosy and launched the wholesale sourcing marketplace. Backed by leading Japanese VCs and international investors including SIG and a Light Street Capital partner — investors behind TikTok, Shopify, and Uber.

2021
Built the trade-show network
Partnered with major Japanese trade fairs including the Tokyo Mercantile Exhibition, Interior Lifestyle, and the GOOD LIFE Fair / BIOFACH JAPAN.

2022
Started cross-border wholesale
Opened an English site for overseas buyers, with orosy handling export operations on behalf of Japanese brands.

2024
Opened the concept shop "sellflove"
A physical store co-created with OPA at Shin-Yurigaoka OPA, extending maker reach into offline retail.
2025
Joined the giftee group
Became an equity-method affiliate of giftee Inc. (TSE Prime: 4449), opening corporate-gifting wholesale as a new channel.

2026
Japan Direct Wholesale
Building on those years of relationships with Japanese brands and suppliers, orosy is now strengthening exports — opening Japanese supply to US buyers, with early access starting summer 2026.
